health is wealth
Chinese medicine as a modality is reliable and accommodating. TCM fuses history, theories, concepts, and practices. The numerous limbs and holistic applications of TCM make an attractive vehicle for either a patient or practitioner. The simple allowance of time spent with intake, observation and practitioner/client interaction does a lot for the quality of health and thus the quality of life. The most significant sign of poverty includes a declining state of health--and unfortunately Western medicine alone does not provide a ton of solutions. In addition, the lineage of the science appeals to me as a way to refine my ability to assist others and contribute to society. With a medicine and skill set informed by a significant amount of predecessors it feels comforting to rely on a technique, or series of techniques that have existed for a really long time culturally. By observing the interplay of elements and cosmology, humans have the unique experience (and challenge) of living between heaven and earth. Our interaction with nature, though often complicated in the modern world, can and should be one of harmony and balance--and this is our intrinsic right.
I think the phrase "heath is wealth" is a truth that we in the Western world often take for granted. I agree that very simple things like practitioner/ patient interaction and balance are often neglected, yet these are linked closely to our well being as people. Simple yet often missed.
